quality Maltese honey
and other beehive products
We manage several Apiaries around Malta, and produce beehive products using sustainable beekeeping practices.
Golden island — Malta in a jar
Back in 2006 the only similarity I had to a bee’s lifestyle was the endless work hours I put in my business, working as an industrial chemist within the superyacht sector! A chance encounter with a friend’s beehives changed my life upside down – from my very first visit I was bewitched and intrigued by these organised social insects and immediately decided that beekeeping will become my new hobby! Fast forward a couple of years and after several courses and endless hours of pouring over beekeeping books and videos, my three beehives multiplied exponentially and it became clear to me that a total change of career was unavoidable. In 2008 I decided to take the plunge and make apiculture my profession!
Golden Island Ltd was born, and from the start sustainability was always at the heart of its ethos, and the health of the bees comes before financial gain. When I met my partner Denise some years ago she immediately fell in love with my girls – her gentle touch and deep connection to nature is invaluable and she nowadays helps me to nurture over 150 beehives, strategically placed all over Malta. We strive to be innovative and sustainable by placing several of our hives within Heritage Malta sites, to be able to promote Malta’s historical link to honey. Together we produce award winning Raw Maltese Honey of the highest quality and other beehive products like propolis, royal jelly, pollen, beeswax, natural cosmetics and beautiful natural beeswax candles. We also offer Queen Bees and colonies for sale.

Welcome to our team — The Boss, the Workers and Us!
To complement these products we make homemade traditional Maltese conserves and preserves from carob and local produce. A few years ago Denise also started a unique line of natural jewellery based on bees and local flowers. We offer all of our products at artisan markets where they are greatly appreciated by locals and visiting tourists, whilst also offering agro-tourism tours – this is a great platform for us to educate the public about our work and the importance of bees to the ecosystem. These educational tours are also great, out of the ordinary, family and team building events.

Meet the team
In our ever increasingly hectic world, we are lucky to be able to call the great outdoors our office. Being surrounded by nature and witnessing first hand the invaluable work of “our girls” is a privilege. We treat our bees with great respect and sustainability, always bearing in mind that we are not Bee Keepers but rather Bee Guardians — we do our best to make sure they are happy but we cannot really keep them! It is always a great satisfaction and honour that they do! In our work we are always mindful that the future of these fascinating insects depends on us and the decisions we make daily.
